Its hard to know what to believe about the economy these days. First the politicians tell us that the economy is a disaster and they need trillions of tax dollars to save it. Next when they figure out that nobody is spending money because we’ve been told how bad things are, suddenly they say the economy is fundamentally sound and we need to start spending again.
People have figured out that we are being jerked around with all of these bailouts and more are being planned. All this will put us so deep in tax debt that our grandchildren will be fighting to pay it off long after we’re gone. Even banks and veteran democrats are starting to question the competence of these policies.
We should all be angry but we should also realize that we need to be prepared to take care of ourselves as much as possible. This will be necessary for many of us as layoffs and closings continue to rise.
It will also mean stepping beyond our comfort zone and taking on more responsibility than we might prefer. Some will need to start their own small business, become independent contractors or even turn a hobby into a service.
The lucky part about these hard times is that since you are reading this, you can use the internet as a resource for instruction, support, advertising and sales. If you have a computer, you now have a worldwide market instead of a yard sale. Different skills present you with different opportunities and you can use the internet to recognize these, minimize your expenses and maximize your exposure.
I’m not saying it will be easy, it won’t. Whatever you choose to do, don’t chase get rich quick schemes, that’s all they are. Do some research and find reputable sources for help. Also don’t spend thousands of dollars for an expert course, it may well be reputable but you shouldn’t start at that level.
I’m sure there are many other opportunities now that have nothing to do with computers or the internet. Keep your eyes open and think outside your normal routine. Maybe you’ll discover your own gold mine.
Whatever you need to do to get through these hard times, keep a positive attitude. This recession won’t last forever. I’ve enclosed a short video that I hope will provide some encouragement.
