Get Fit For Health Care

by Charles on January 6, 2010

I’ve been trying to persuade friends over fifty to do their best to stay fit for some time. It used to be good advice but with the impending government takeover of our health care system, attention to fitness will be even more important for seniors.

The House version of the bill includes $500 Billion in cuts to Medicare in the first 10 years. The only way to provide coverage to the numbers they project is to cut costs and ration care. If you haven’t already heard, a main target for that rationing of medical treatment will be the elderly.

Remember the uproar over the “death panels”  which will decide what treatment you will be allowed if any? The democrat leaders are breaking their pledges to conduct their discussions on C-Span tv so the public could be assured of their good intentions. Instead they are plotting behind closed doors, even refusing republican leaders access. So much for “transparency”.

If this kind of behavior doesn’t persuade you to take some precautions, I wish you luck. For the rest of us, I think we will be best off if we keep ourselves as fit and healthy as we can.

I realize that unfortunately some of us aren’t able to improve their health and all of us will need medical attention sooner or later. However, if we try to stay as active and health conscious as common sense will allow, we can hopefully enjoy life more and require less medical attention.

With some luck next November’s elections will improve the direction of health care but helping ourselves is still a good way to start the new year.
