There have been a lot of confusing news reports of various events over the past few days. Some has been good but unfortunately, much of it was bad. What makes it worse is having to deal with the different slants the media puts on their reports.
On the good side it seems that the swine flu while it is still spreading, it is also much milder than originally feared. It is wise to still be cautious for a while longer just to be safe until we are completely sure of the situation.
The Dow also finished up by 214 points on Monday. Experts are still warning of only a short term recovery as a result of the massive government spending. However there does seem to finally be some money trickling into the stock market and housing again.
The US government is currently borrowing 157 Billion dollars per week from other countries. China is already skeptical of putting more money into the US Treasury. If our wealthy Arab backers stop their support, our government might resort to buying our own debt. That’s like using your Visa card to pay your Mastercard bill. Not smart and it won’t work for long.
The bright side for those of us who know this massive spending is not a solution, is that the majority of the population now feels the same way. Our numbers are growing and the politicians up for re-election in 2010 are also aware of how we feel.
On the bad side, Obama has done his best to steam roll the secured debt holders at Chrysler and give the control of the company to the Auto Workers Union as payback. He’ll probably get away with it but news of how the bond holders were intimidated is leaking out.
Like I mentioned above this has been a confusing week of good and bad news. I haven’t even included cap & trade carbon taxes, socialized health care, housing, banks and unemployment.
We all have many reasons to be cautious now and its not easy to make wise decisions when we know we’re not getting all the facts. For now, it seems best to use common sense and only believe what you hear from sources you know you can trust. Too much of the media is presenting only the news that advances their biased views.
Stay optimistic because the majority of our population are proud of our country and value the freedom and opportunity provided by our Constitution. We don’t intend to let the government dictate how we live. Stay informed and let your politicians know you are watching.
Finally, don’t forget that Sunday is Mother’s Day. If Mom is happy, you will be happy. Just a word to the wise.
