Baby Boomers are flocking to the internet and the companies that want us as customers are taking notice. From 2007 through 2008 the number of boomers actively using the internet increased roughly 50% according to Forrester Research. With a number of nearly 70 million, we are a group that is gaining a lot of attention as more of us continue to discover the benefits of the internet and social networking.

It is now very easy to stay in touch with friends and family by sharing email, photos, movies and even internet phone service form anywhere in the world that offers internet service. Many seniors are finding these services very effective and rewarding ways to stay involved with children and grandchildren.

In addition to offering a way to shop for just about anything, the internet is also a great resource for social networking with other boomers who share your interests or hobbies. You can find information on health, knitting, golf and nearly anything else you may have an interest in or need for. Social network groups can also be a great source for support and friends, locally as well as globally.

You can find sites for special interest groups simply by doing a google search but just a sample of sites which contain social networking groups are eons.com, facebook.com, and aarp.com.

It might take you a few tries to find the best fit but you’ll find the benefits of social networking are well worth it.

Now that the worst of winter seems to be over and the PGA has already played tournaments in Hawaii and the Southwest, those of us who love golf are dying to start playing. In the South the weather has been mild enough to play for a few weeks already.

With the weather starting to cooperate, wouldn’t it be nice if you could get your game to improve as well. If you’re like me, you’re always looking to hit the ball farther or at least put it in the fairway more often.

I’m always watching for anything that will help me play better. New technology is great but it can only do so much and it seems most instructional courses are targeted to teaching 20-30 year olds how to hit 350 yard drives.

I’m a long way past my twenties and that’s why I’m really excited about a DVD course that has just been released. Its by Don Trahan a master teacher whose star pupil is his son D.J., one of the new stars on the PGA. Don was ranked one of the top 50 teachers by Golf Magazine and has had a very successful pro career of his own.

Not only does Don really know what he’s teaching, his lessons are helpful to golfers of all ages who want to get peak performance out of their golf game. This course is so good that it has a 365 day guarantee. ( I wish my Dentist did that. ) It also costs less than a single lesson with most course professionals, so it is available to anyone who seriously wants to improve their game and enjoy golf more.

Don explains this much better than me and also offers some free video lessons to help you. For the free lessons and more details simply click, Peak Performance Golf. I think you will be as impressed by Don as I am.

Even if you’re not interested in improving your game, I’ve proved through the years that golf is still a lot of fun no matter how you play.

All of us have “one of those days” from time to time but I seem to be having a cluster of them this week. Nothing disastrous but I’m definitely not going to walk under any ladders or break mirrors anytime soon.

Over the last two days we’ve had nearly seven inches of rain. Most of it fell while I was making a visit to the bank that I couldn’t postpone. It seems that when the streets start to flood a lot of people drive faster to try to get out of the rain quicker. Its kind of entertaining when they aren’t coming at you.

When I discovered that a splashing sound I kept hearing was nearly an inch of water that had somehow found its way into the floor of my backseat, I thought it might be a good time to stop at the wine shop. There I found that my favorite wine had gone up by four dollars a bottle since last week.

None of this was a major disaster but I was starting to see the writing on the wall.

So when I found time this morning to make some more of the planned improvements on my website, I moved any flammable material far away from my computer. I also made backups to be safe.

Well if you tried to view my site today, I think the “fatal error” message explained how things went.

It took longer to make the corrections than I expected and I apologize for the downtime.

I haven’t made this post to whine but I know a lot of us have had a rough week and want to let you know you weren’t the the only one. As long as we don’t let things make us give up, they will get better.

Now that the winter freeze is finally thawing, I hope all of us will be able to get out to enjoy the warmer weather and get some exercise.

If you are a golfer like me and have trouble with control and consistency, I have a tip that may make your game more fun this year.

Many of us try to swing too hard and too fast to hit the ball as far as possible. This can cause you to swing off plane, lose balance and hit at the ball instead of swinging through it.

Try swinging a little easier to stay on plane and transfer your weight through your swing without losing tempo and balance. Most professional golfers admit that they dial down their power to around 80 or 90 percent for the best control and accuracy.

Once you get control of your accuracy and consistency, you can always try swinging faster to see how it works. If you are interested more information about the Swing Easy tip, you are welcome at golf past 50.
